That’s why we have worked to bring back the historic WERH as a noncommercial station to serve Hamilton and Marion County.
What’s the Difference Between Ads and Underwriting?
At WERH or any other noncommercial station, you’ll hear the terms “underwriter” or “sponsor” used instead of “advertiser.” The people and businesses who support our station “underwrite” and support our programming, but we are not allowed to air advertisements.
The Federal Communications Commission says that stations like ours can’t air calls to action, (“come on down and see us”) qualitative comparisons, (“they have the best…”) pricing/discounts, (“now 30% off at the low rate of $99!”) or long lists of products or services.
What does that leave you? A unique opportunity to cut through the advertising chatter with a simple message that you support your community and your local station. Who you are, where you are, what you do, and when you’re open are more than enough to garner the goodwill of our listeners. We will be glad to write and record a sample underwriting spot for you to hear!
